A ‘Tract Palace’ in the Heart of NYC

In the heart of Manhattan, just five blocks from Times Square, a unique evangelism hub is reaching the world—one language at a time. Known as the “Tract Palace,” this 1,500-square-foot space at 1026 6th Avenue is the vision of Pastor Brian Kelly of King James Bible Baptist Church.

Positioned in one of the most linguistically diverse places on earth, the Tract Palace exists for a simple purpose: to get the gospel into people’s hands in their native language. The unique space serves as both a distribution center and a staging ground for outreach. Volunteers—including Bible college students, church members, and even the homeless—help organize, distribute, and share Chick tracts with people from around the world.

Inside, the Tract Palace is designed like a “spiritual hospital,” where tracts in dozens of languages are readily available. Pastor Kelly has also built a network of multilingual partners who can assist on the spot. When language barriers arise, he’s able to connect people with native speakers over the phone to clearly communicate the gospel.

Local Believers, Global Mission

Christians from across New York City, the U.S., and even other countries regularly visit or call in to receive free foreign-language tracts. Many have a burden for specific neighborhoods or people groups, and the Tract Palace equips them accordingly. A mobile distribution station at 51st Street and Broadway, dubbed the “Jesus Bus,” also puts thousands of tracts into circulation for use throughout the city.

Outreach happens on a massive scale. Each year, teams set up 24-hour tract stations in busy subway areas like 42nd Street, while mobile units carry materials across an area that is home to more than 8 million people representing over 700 languages. Pastor Kelly encourages believers to carry “tract wallets” filled with multiple languages so they’re always ready to share with anyone they meet.

Yet, it’s often the one-on-one encounters that define the ministry. In one case, Pastor Kelly met a woman who spoke Dzongkha—a rare language—and he had just the tract! He made a special trip up five flights of stairs just to retrieve the tract for her. But it was available thanks to his vision for the Tract Palace.

Equipping Saints for Service

The Tract Palace also supports large evangelistic efforts. During an annual multi-day outreach event, 100 street preachers are equipped to distribute up to 100,000 tracts across the city. Missionaries, students, and church members alike are supplied with materials for their specific fields—sometimes even receiving large shipments to take back with them overseas.

Currently, the ministry stocks tracts in roughly 100 of the 143 languages produced by Chick Publications, with a goal of eventually carrying every title in every available language. Everything is offered freely, as the Lord provides.

Looking ahead, Pastor Kelly has an even bigger vision: hosting a global missions conference at the Jacob Javits Center. The goal is to bring together missionaries from nearly every country, each representing their field with displays, tracts, and opportunities for support. With as many as 1,000 tract tables planned, the event would serve as a massive launch point for worldwide evangelism.

The Gospel in Every Language

At the heart of it all is a simple conviction: giving someone the gospel in their own language breaks down barriers and increases the likelihood that it will be read and shared. For Pastor Brian Kelly, the mission is clear. In a city that never sleeps, the opportunity to reach the nations is constant—and the Tract Palace is making the most of it.
